Universal Matter sells 30%+ CO₂ reduction and 80 kg CO₂ saved per m³ of concrete. Get the embodied-carbon claim third-party verified, quantify per unit of the customer's product, and price it. This is the defensible moat against sub-$80/kg Chinese GNP (Mordor).
Structural fact: the industry's own advice is "buy masterbatch, not powder" . That is a direct indictment of every powder-first business model. Universal Matter does not sell turbostratic graphene; it sells G enable Concrete at 300–500 mL per 100 kg cementitious material : a dosed liquid with a cement-reduction claim. That is the model.

Aerospace, defence, and medical customers require rigorous material qualification. Every failure in Section 9 ran out of cash inside this window. Levidian ran a first-of-its-kind graphene auction that surfaced ~100 tonnes of demand interest, giving the seller genuine price discovery in a market with no exchange. Consider running a sealed auction on the first tonne of guaranteed-carbon-origin material. The results become the reference price for subsequent OEM contracts.

Capacity vs. realized revenue: the industry's defining lesson

First graphene company in the world to complete the Graphene Council's Verified Graphene Producer programme (Graphene-Info); selected for a Graphene Flagship project led by Airbus. On 26 Nov 2025 shares fell −38% to 0.006p, valuing the company at ~£330,000 after a UK-listed buyer walked from heads of terms. Board resolved to file notice of intention to appoint administrators. Stock down >70% YTD 2025 (Proactive Investors).
Lesson: certification and marquee logos are not revenue. Versarien had both (first-ever verified producer, Airbus Flagship) and still ran out of money.
Applied Graphene Materials plc formerly AIM:AGM
2023 · Liquidation · US$1.3M asset sale
Shares suspended 1 Feb 2023. Primary operating subsidiaries sold to Universal Matter for US$1.3M (announced 22 Feb 2023); delisting 31 Mar 2023. Administrators Alvarez & Marsal cited Brexit, supply chain, Covid, and a failed equity raise. Solvent wind-up outcome: "very unlikely to be in a position to return funds to shareholders" (Proactive Investors, Alvarez & Marsal).
Lesson: a technically competent dispersion business (now the core of Universal Matter's ~72 t/yr UK operation) was worth US$1.3 million as a distressed asset. Asset value in this industry is close to zero without an order book.
XG Sciences Lansing, MI

Ceased operations July 2022, filed Chapter 7 in the Western District of Michigan, case 1:22-bk-02326 (Inforuptcy). Article 9 asset sale to NanoXplore closed 29 Aug 2022 (NanoXplore). At the time of filing, XG Sciences was Ford's graphene supplier, with material in >10 production components on the F-150 and Mustang.
Lesson, the sharpest one in the industry: winning the mass-market OEM design-in every graphene business plan targets did not save the company. At <0.5% loading across foam and under-hood parts, the tonnage and revenue were too small to cover a nanomaterials company's fixed cost base. Refuse programmes below ~10 t/yr unless they carry development fees.

Verified Graphene Producer™ (The Graphene Council)
Requires in-person facility inspection, random sampling, and independent characterization by internationally recognized labs, for example NPL, UK (Graphene Council). Scarce credential: only about five producers globally hold it (Kyorene). Pair with the top of the price band as Levidian does (Levidian).
